Li Fucheng, chairman and general manager of Beijing Yanjing Beer Group Corp Updated: 2007-01-08 07:58 Yanjing has always drawn attention as one of the world's top 10 brewers
and the second largest in China behind Tsing Tao. It's also the only domestic
beer producer that hasn't been invested in by a foreign firm. "We don't have
an urgent need to partner with anybody now," says Li Fucheng. "But Yanjing won't
be single forever." Li explains that the possibility of partnering ensures
flexibility if Yanjing ever has a financial crisis. Yanjing has relatively
high liquidity and enough channels to pool funds from the capital market, Li
says. But keeping Yanjing independent doesn't mean Li isn't aware of foreign
interest. As a response to the aggressive acquisition of local brands made by
foreign players in China, Yanjing has managed to move beyond Beijing and turn
itself into a national beer producer, often taking over smaller local breweries.
