The first Disney resort in Chinese mainland will open next year in Shanghai, Walt Disney Co said on Wednesday.

The project consists of Shanghai Disneyland, two hotels, a shopping mall, restaurants and entertainment district, and Wishing Star Park.

It will also feature six themed lands filled with world-class attractions and live entertainment spectaculars, the company said.

Disney is building something truly special that not only showcases the best of Disney's storytelling but also celebrates and incorporates China's incredibly rich heritage to create a one-of-a-kind destination that will delight and entertain the people of China for generations to come, said Bob Iger, Disney chairman and CEO.

The magical place that is authentic Disney and distinctly Chinese, Iger added.
