Macao logs over 2 million visitor arrivals in January

MACAO - Macao's visitor arrivals in January this year reached 2,076,064, up 1.4 percent from a year earlier, according to figures released on Wednesday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Of all the arrivals in January, 54.5 percent lasted only one day, the figures indicated.

Analyzed by place of residence, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year to 1.22 million, 58. 8 percent of the total, of whom 538,306 traveling to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme.

Visitors from South Korea (42,127) and Japan (36,155) grew by 39 percent and 1.4 percent respectively, while those from Hong Kong (529,621) and Taiwan (92,123) decreased by 2.8 percent and 20. 4 percent respectively.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by sea and by air totaled 768,744 and 121,305 respectively in January 2011, down by 3.9 percent and 18.2 percent year-on-year respectively, while visitor arrivals by land totaled 1,186,015 during the period, up by eight percent year-on-year.
