China to sell 17m vehicles in 2010

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicted that vehicle sales would reach 17 million units in China this year, the highest level in the US auto market's history, Beijing News reported on Monday.

In the first eight months of this year, vehicle sales amounted to 12 million units in China, up 39 percent year-on-year, the report said, citing Xinhua statistics.

Guo Jifu, director of the Beijing Transportation Research Center, said the capital city may have 7 million vehicles by 2015.
