The company said in a statement to the two countries that the cars produced between November 27, 2007 and January 31, 2010 with certain serial numbers will be examined.

The problem could cause "ineffectiveness of security tools in the car... In an extreme case it could produce a short-circuit and a fire in the engine," the company said.

Some 155,000 cars of this model have been sold in Brazil, according to Brazil's National Federation of Motor Vehicles Distribution. And at least 14,369 were sold in Argentina between 2008 and 2009, according to the country's Automotive Distributors Association.
