Walmart launches 29th direct purchase base for farm produce in China

Walmart has established a fresh egg direct purchase base at Dalian Hongjia Animal Husbandry Co in Dalian, an open coastal city in northeastern China's Liaoning province.

The move made the total number of farm produce direct purchase bases Walmart has launched in China to 29. The world's largest retail sale company plans to make such bases, which connect farms directly to supermarkets, to cover rural population of 1 million in 2011, up from the current 283,000.

Dalian Hongjia, founded in 1988, boasts 470,000 laying hens and an annual egg production of 7,400 tons.
