Benoy, a London-based building design firm with an office in Shanghai, won the "Company of the Year" award Tuesday night at the second annual British Business Awards.

Organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, the other winners this year included Li Shirong, deputy director general of the Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission, who won Alumnus of the Year Award; BBC World Service, which won the Innovative Product/Service of the Year for "Learning English China;" HSBC, which won the Green Award; Ecotek, which was named Most Promising Business of the Year; and Queen Mary University, which won the Right Partner Award.

The Right Partner Award, Green Award, and Most Promising Award were newly added this year.

"Building on last year's successful launch, I am delighted that this year's awards have seen an increase in the number of applications and perhaps even more importantly a wider spectrum of industries and activities entering the competition," said William Ehrman, British ambassador to China and patron of the awards.

The next awards will be held in September 2010 during the Shanghai World Expo.

According to statistics from British government, UK-China bilateral trade in goods reached $23.58 billion, 39.3 percent of the target of $60 billion in goods and services by the year 2010. Cumulatively, the UK is still the No. 1 European investor in China by value, with a total realized investment value of $16.15 billion and 6367 projects at the end of August 2009. The total realized value is $402.06 million more than the No. 2 investor country, Germany.
