Quake-hit areas designated economic development zones

China's State Council recently designated 39 areas in southwest China's Sichuan province as economic development zones, newssc.net, a local news website reported Friday.

They are all counties, districts, or cities, which were severely damaged by the Wenchuan earthquake last year. The move is designed to quicken the reconstruction of these areas by attracting greater investment and providing more government support.
