China Mobile eyes rural market

China Mobile, the country's largest mobile phone network operator, will attach more significance to the rural market to minimize the impact of the global financial crisis.

Rural areas of the country will become the next big market for telecom operators, Wang Jianzhou, chairman of the company told the China Development Forum 2009 today. Such areas contribute 50 percent of the company's millions of new subscribers.

He said the company would also benefit from a recent policy that grants a 13 percent subsidy for mobile phones in rural areas.
