All government levels and related departments are required to map out emergency plans to prevent frost and snow disasters during the Spring Festival traveling peak period, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on Wednesday.

The nation may suffer serious frost and snow fall, as temperatures during the traveling peak period will be close to or higher than other years and some regions may see sharp drops in temperature, according to the meteorology departments' forecasts.

Next year's Spring Festival traveling peak period lasts 40 days between Jan 11 and Feb 19.

It is expected that 2.33 billion passengers will travel during that period, up 3.5 percent from the previous year. Some 188 million passengers will go by railway, 2.07 billion by road, 29 million by ship and 24.2 million by air.
