China International Cyclic Economy Expo debuts at Qingdao

The First China International Cyclic Economy Expo 2008 (CICExpo) kicked off at Qingdao International Convention Center. The expo will be held from October 23 to 25.

In nature, the cyclic economy is a kind of ecological economy, which demands that ecological law guide economic activities instead of mechanical law.

Under the theme of 'Developing Cyclic Economy for a Resource-saving and Environment-friendly Society', "CICExpo will accelerate the process of transforming innovative achievements and promote cooperation between Chinese and overseas enterprises. The expo will exert a positive influence on world's cyclic economy," Xia Geng, mayor of Qingdao said.

In response to the cyclic economy, the World Bank some years ago introduced a new system of national accounts (namely the Green Gross Domestic Product (GGDP). This system calculates the environmental resources and deducts environmental cost and expenses to environmental production from GDP.

This year's exhibition will showcase more than 1,100 enterprises from home and abroad such as domestic powerhouses China Petrochemical Corporation, Haier Group, China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation and China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited. Overseas Fortune 500 companies, including Siemens, Rhodia and American GE are also registered for the exhibition.

Approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the CICExpo aims to promote and apply energy-saving technologies and equipment, to facilitate the cooperation and communication of relevant projects, and to bridge domestic and overseas enterprises in the cyclic economy field.

The Exhibition on Cyclic Economy Development Achievements showcases the achievements of the national pilot projects in the cyclic economy. About 1,200 standard booths are provided for the exhibition.

Other highlights are the Summit Forum which has authoritative information and insightful views about the cyclic economy, the symposiums that provide opportunities for participants to attract partners and Cooperation Matchmaking Talks aiming to offer face-to-face talks for participants from home and abroad.
