By Zhao Tingting (chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2008-08-13 14:18 The Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, China's first high speed intercity rail line, has transported 513,700 passengers since it started operation on August 1, 2008, according to the Ministry of Railways (MOR). "The railway's passenger volume saw peak last Sunday, with almost all seats being full on every train. 94 intercity trains moved 50,800 passengers that day", said an official from the MOR. For passengers' convenience, the railway department added more ticket offices and return tickets are available both at the ticket offices and the automatic ticket machines. The Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway is the world's only line on which passenger trains can run at 350 km per hour, cutting the 120-km journey from the previous 70 minutes to about 30 minutes. There are five stations along the line: the Beijing South Railway Station, Yizhuang, Yongle, Wuqing and Tianjin. The service is shuttling spectators, athletes, media people as well as other passengers between Beijing and Tianjin, one of the Olympic co-host cities for 12 football matches from August 6 to August 15.
