A harvest season for Lushun cherry in Dalian

The 4th Dalian Lushun Cherry Festival will be held between June 6 and 26 in Lushun District of Dalian, the southern tip of Northeast China's Liaodong peninsular.

During the tourist-oriented cherry festival, 26 cherry orchards in the city's suburb will be opened to tourists. Visitors not only can enjoy the scenes in this historical tourist resort, but also can pick cherries from the trees, taste local foods, and lodge in rural homesteads.

More and more citizens in Dalian are getting interested in experiencing rural life. The combination of agriculture and tourism in the annual cherry festival provides a communicative platform for the farmers and the tourists.

The past three cherry festivals have attracted about 150,000 tourists to the orchards, bringing an increasing income of 74.5 million yuan ($10.71 million) to the local fruit growers.

Lushun boasts a geographical and climatic superiority for growing cherries. Currently, 75 cherry species are cultivated in the cherry orchards covering more than 6,667 hectares, according to the sources from Lushun District Administration.

This year, about 2,000 hectares of fructuous cherry trees are expected to bear over 6,000 tons of cherries.

Cherry is rich in microelements and vitamins with Lunshun cherry selling well in many other places in China. It is also exported to other countries like Japan and South Korea.
