Cross-Straits fair nets $1.71b foreign investments

Updated: 2008-05-23 17:59 The five-day 10th Cross-Straits Fair for Economy and Trade dealt 203 foreign investment projects worth $1.71 billion, up 2.46 percent compared with last year, according to the fair organizers yesterday, the final day of the fair. There were 55 projects worth more than ten million dollars dealt, totaling $750 million in foreign investment, up 4.02 percent year on year. Twenty-five projects were from Taiwan Province, with an investment of $169 million, higher than last year. And Taiwan Province had more than 3,000 square meters of booths, with 136 enterprises from 23 counties. The signed contracts were from agriculture, industry, service trade, and basic infrastructure, and five were agricultural projects with an investment of $14.35 million. 53 projects from service trade field were signed with a foreign investment of $460 million, up 57 percent from last year. The fair, held from May 18 to May 22, 2008 in Fuzhou City, East China’s Fujian Province, was one of the largest cross-Straits fairs in ten years of development, and attracted $10 billion in investment.
