Approximately 1.95 million backing radars were installed on passenger cars last year, accounting for 30.6 percent of the passenger car market. As backing radars become more popular, it is predicted that the number will reach 4.57 million sets by 2010, more than double the current figure and accounting for 40 percent of passenger cars on the road.

"We won't miss such an opportunity. We are now focused on the repair and maintenance market and trying to supply our products for automakers," said a principal of a Guangdong-based backing radar factory.

There are around 200 and 300 domestic backing radar manufacturers in China. However, most of them are small-scale operations with ragged technologies. "Backing radars are not undergoing compulsory testing and examination, and a uniformed national standard is absent," explained an expert.
