Domestic auto prices expand in March

Updated: 2008-04-08 16:43 Domestic automobile prices rose this March, according to the price monitoring center under the National Development and Reform Commission yesterday, the Xinhuanet reported. Data from the center indicated that prices on imported vehicles went down slightly. Average prices for domestic vehicles in March was up 0.15 percent from February this year, but down 2.33 percent year on year. In March, prices for passenger vehicles went up 0.27 percent compared with February but were down 2.55 percent year on year. Specifically, prices of cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) grew 0.43 and 0.38 percent respectively compared with February this year and prices on minicars slipped 0.24 percent month on month. Commercial vehicles witnessed a slight decline in prices, selling 0.22 percent lower than in February and down 2.54 percent year on year. Due to the appreciation of the Chinese yuan, prices on imported vehicles continued to drop. Imported vehicles sold 0.23 percent lower month on month and down 0.94 percent year on year. Of that drop, prices of imported cars decreased by 0.95 percent compared with February this year, but prices of imported SUVs were up 0.80 percent month on month and down 4.31 percent year on year.
