Vietnam imports bird flu vaccines from China
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-04-04 17:14 Vietnam has recently imported from China 60 million doses of vaccines against bird flu virus strain H5N1 to prevent outbreaks among poultry, local newspaper Industry and Trade on Friday. Early this week, the World Veterinary Association offered Vietnam 20 million doses of vaccines against bird flu virus strain H5N2 among fowls. Bird flu is now hitting the two southern provinces of Soc Trang and Ca Mau and central Quang Nam province, according to the Department of Animal Health under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Bird flu outbreaks in Vietnam have so far killed and led to the forced culling of dozens of millions of fowls in the country. Regarding human trials for bird flu vaccines, 10 volunteers, who are vaccine researchers, received the second dosage of the trial vaccine on Thursday. On March 6, they received the first dosage, said local newspaper Pioneer on Friday. To date, Vietnam has confirmed a total of 106 human cases of bird flu infections, including 52 fatalities, since the disease started to hit the country in December 2003.
