The domestic used vehicle trade volume totaled 137,800 units in October and Shanghai ranked first with 18,600 units among 32 counted provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, according to statistics from the China Automotive Dealers Association.

The Shanghai used vehicle sales boom can be attributed to the regulations on limiting heavily polluting vehicles in the city and official vehicle reform.

Beijing posted a sales figure of 17,100 second-hand vehicles in October, closely following Shanghai. According to the Beijing Bureau of Statistics, the accumulated auto sales in the capital reached 570,000 units during the first ten months of the year, up 24.5 percent over the same period in 2005. Used vehicle sales totaled 250,000 units, increasing 64.2 percent year on year.
