Carmakers ramp up production

China's auto sales and production for the first ten months of this year beat last year's total for the same period, and was buoyed by new models and price drops. Carmakers in China sold 5.77 million units between January and October, an increase of 25.69 percent from a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Auto production grew by 27.56 percent to 5.89 million units year on year. Both production and sales for the year are expected to top seven million units, according to the association.

In October alone passenger car sales reached 403,906 units, rising by 27.3 percent from the same period last year but dropping by 7.9 percent from the previous year, according to the Union of National Passenger Car Market Information. Sedan sales in October decreased by 11.1 percent compared with September.
