Large- and mid-sized bus market flourishes

Light bus market growth slips

The combined production and sales of domestic large- and medium-sized buses totaled 145,400 and 142,800 units respectively in the first nine months of 2006, an increase of 12.01 percent and 10.06 percent year on year, according to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Large bus production and sales were 15,000 and 14,900 units, representing 10.34 percent and 10.4 percent of the total bus market, up 16.79 percent and 14.72 percent respectively over the first three quarters of 2005. Medium bus production and sales amounted to 18,600 and 18,800 units, accounting for 12.97 percent and 13.14 percent of the total, rising by 25.21 percent and 24.21 percent respectively year on year.

Long-distance coach sales increased 13.12 percent year on year to 24,000 units. Urban bus sales reached 14,400 units, up 12 percent year on year, while the growth rate was 14.71 percent lower than the previous year. Touring bus sales were 3,392 units, an increase of 22.9 percent year on year.
