Blueprint for sustainable development in Shenzhen

Updated: 2006-03-23 09:48 5. Public transportation projects Within the next five years, 8,000 new or renovated buses will be added to the city's public transportation system. By 2010, public transportation will account for 60 percent of all transportation. The average travel time from starting point to destination by public transportation will be a maximum of 30 minutes and waiting time will average less than five minutes. By 2010, parking spaces in the city will increase to 1 million with 70 percent in residential areas. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong special railway (2005-2010) will be built with a total length of 104.6 kilometers, including 36.6 kilometers inside Shenzhen. The New Shenzhen Railway Station (2006-2009) in Longhua will cover an area of 1.5 million square meters with total investment of 2.1 billion yuan. The west section of Shenzhen Metro Line 1 (2005-2010), from Window of the World to the Shenzhen airport, will total 23.4 kilometers in length with expected investment of 11.07 billion yuan. Shenzhen Metro Line 2 (2007-2010), from Shekou wharf to Window of the World, will total 14.4 kilometers with expected investment of 5.59 billion yuan. Shenzhen Metro Line 3 (2005-2010), from Hongling Road (Middle) to Longxing Street, will total 32.9 kilometers with expected investment of 10.8 billion yuan. The north section of Shenzhen Metro Line 4 (2005-2010), from Children's Palace to Longhua Town center, will total 14.4 kilometers with expected investment of 5.59 billion yuan. Shenzhen Railway Line 5 (2006-2010), from Shenzhen West Station to Tangkeng, will total 38.2 kilometers with expected investment of 5.15 billion yuan. 6.Green projects Rebuilding or enlarging the scale of nine sewage factories, including Nanshan, Luofang, Binhe, Shekou, Hengling and Henggang; starting construction of 21 new sewage factories; gradually rebuilding the sewage system in 175 villages in the city and other residential areas; lengthening sewage pipelines by 720 kilometers. Cleaning the city's main rivers and revamping the ecological environment of the rivers. Building or rebuilding 416 garbage transfer stations, and building or rebuilding 280 public toilets; building 19 garbage-recycling facilities. Building 15 green boulevards and 300 parks of different kinds to increase the total number of parks to more than 500.
