(Shenzhen Daily)
Updated: 2006-03-14 09:43
The Shenzhen Municipal Government is seeking the opinion of residents regarding its draft 11th five-year program. Starting yesterday, the draft of Shenzhen's 11th Five-Year Program is on display at seven different venues in the city. Residents are also welcome to submit their suggestions online, which will be accepted until March 26. Under the new five-year development program unveiled yesterday, Shenzhen will develop into a regional metropolis in 15 years. Once the draft program takes effect, it will serve as a blueprint for the city's economic and social development in the coming five years. The draft program defines a "regional international metropolis" as an influential international high-tech city in the Asia-Pacific region, international logistics hub, international finance, trade and exhibition center, international center for cultural exchange and international tourism city. Three steps will be taken to realize the goals laid out in the draft program. In the first step, Shenzhen will take the lead in China in realizing socialist modernization by 2010. In the second step, a basic framework for turning Shenzhen into a global city will be established before 2020. After the year 2020, Shenzhen will concentrate on taking itself to a much higher level as a regional metropolis by establishing a mechanism for coordinated and sustainable development.
