China's alcohol industry should pay more attention to innovation, according to an NPC deputy who spoke before the opening of the annual session of China's National People's Congress in Beijing.

Chen Changfeng, an over 30-year veteran of China's alcohol industry, told a CRI reporter that exploring its own core technologies is the only way to further develop the country's alcohol industry.

The NPC deputy stressed China's alcohol industry faces two major problems in its development.  First of all, the industry lacks diversification.  Products made by different companies are becoming increasingly similar, which means levels of specialization and quality are sorely inadequate.  Secondly, the industry needs to take the initiative to explore new, innovative techniques.

Chen warned that most Chinese alcohol producers pay most of their attention to marketing strategies, while neglecting product innovation.

As China highlights scientific development in its draft outline for the 11th Five-year plan, innovation is seen as a major task for the country.  Deputy Cheng Changfeng believes, like every other industry in China, the most important issue for the Chinese alcohol industry is to explore its own core technologies.

China's legislature, the National People's Congress, began its annual full-session Sunday morning.  Nearly 3,000 deputies from all over China have gathered in Beijing to offer their opinions for China's further development in all areas.
