Former Hong Kong actress Cherie Chung, 47, last week lost her businessman husband Mike Chu to cancer. He died in a local hospital, aged 53. The widowed star has received support from fellow entertainers including Chow Yun-fat, the couple's long-time friend.

Dubbed the so-called "golden couple" of Hong Kong, Chu founded advertising empire Synergie, which won more than 200 awards internationally, while Chung has starred in more than 60 movies alongside superstars like Chow Yun-fat, Leslie Cheung, Danny Chan and Andy Lau.

The couple enjoyed 16 years of happy marriage since tying the knot in 1991, though didn't have children. The actress quit the entertainment industry to care for her husband.
