Vitas Vladasovich Grachyov - dubbed the miracle of Russian song - brings his charming smile and beautiful voice to China, in his debut show in Beijing on June 15. Lives of the common people
The Beijing People's Art Theater is staging the classic play, Rickshaw Boy (1936), a masterpiece of the Chinese writer Lao She, to pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Chinese drama. One of Lao She's beloved works, it tells a tragic story of common people, and gives a panoramic description of Beijing culture, a major feature of his literature.

Humanity under siege
In an unnamed city, the residents all succumb to blindness. As the epidemic spreads, victims are quarantined in an abandoned mental asylum, heavily guarded by soldiers. The National Theater Company of China will stage The Blind City, an adaptation from Noble Prize winner in literature in 1998, Jose Saramago's novel, Blindness. Directed by Wang Xiaoying, the drama made its debut at Peking University in May.

Hope of Chinese music
The China National Symphony Orchestra will perform works by teachers and students from the composition department of the Conservatory of Chinese Music. Tan Lihua will take the baton.

Music season
Jakarta-born Jahja Ling will conduct the China Philharmonic Orchestra to present Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major, and Sibelius' Symphony No 2 in D Major. Japanese violinist Kyoko Takezawa will perform.
Ling began to play the piano at age 4, and completed a master's degree at the Juilliard School. He founded the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra in 1981, and has been the music director of the San Diego Symphony since 2004.

Wind from grassland
A concert, titled Tribute to the Grassland, featuring Mongolian folk music will hit the stage. Dream of a Bride shows how a new bride desperately misses her husband, who was killed in the war. Commit Suicide by Hitting the Stone Tablet extols the heroism and patriotism of General Yang in Song Dynasty. Voice of heaven

The heroes
Entitled 10 Years Make The Hero, the solo exhibition of Shen Jingdong is a collection of his recent oil paintings, photographs and sculptures. Shen began creating the Hero series in 1997 after serving seven years in the army. Working on oil paintings based on the pictures of great men, he creates a spiritual bearing within the vigor of the images. Later in 2002 he applied this same theme to sculpting.
