Xie Dong, a former pop singer, has been taken into custody by Beijing police for drug offences. Beijing police raided Xie's home in Shijingshan District on last Saturday evening after receiving an anonymous tip-off. Illegal drugs were found in a drawer near Xie's computer. On-site tests confirmed Xie was under the influence of the drug "ice", or methamphetamine, as well as speed. Xie's girlfriend was also taken into custody by police, after also testing positive for the drug.

Xie was one of the country's most pop stars back in the '90s after releasing the hugely popular song The Smiling Face. But his career has dwindled in recent years, with reasons unknown to the public.
