HK's export to mainland for outward processing fall to 29%

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's exports to the Chinese mainland for outward processing in the first quarter this year fell to 29 percent from 32 percent a year ago, the city's statistics department said Friday.

During the same period, 49 percent of imports from the Chinese mainland were related to outward processing, down from 52 percent a year earlier, the data showed.

In value terms, HK$125.1 billion ($16 billion) of total exports to the Chinese mainland in the first quarter were for outward processing, representing an increase of 18 percent over the same period last year. On the other hand, the value of imports from the Chinese mainland related to outward processing rose 14 percent from a year ago to HK$189.1 billion.
