China calls for enhanced cooperation with Britain

BEIJING -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday said China and Britain should work toward encouraging cooperation between enterprises of both countries to lift bilateral economic and trade ties.

Li made the remarks during a meeting with visiting British Prince Andrew, who is here as a special envoy of the United Kingdom for international trade and investment.

Li said Chinese-British economic and trade cooperation is fruitful and the two countries should encourage enterprises' cooperation in energy, environmental protection, high-end manufacturing, infrastructure and financial services, turn complementary economic strengths into substantial cooperation, and make most of those big projects, so as to inject new driving force for the economic and social development of both countries, Li said.

The vice premier also spoke highly of the role Prince Andrew has played in strengthening China-Britain trade ties.

China attaches great importance to relations with Britain. The two sides should further enhance political mutual trust and cooperation and promote an in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership, Li said.

Prince Andrew said the economic cooperation between the two countries is important, and he will continue to endeavor for the development of Britain-China and EU-China economic ties.
