Construction of ABB-funded school building completed in Sichuan

The construction of two schools in Sichuan was completed April 13, 2010 thanks to assistance from the ABB Group.

ABB Boai Middle School in Gaoping town of Guanghan city and ABB Boai Primary School in Zhongjiang county of Deyang city, are ready for more than 2,500 local students to start their brand new school year.

ABB Group, a power and automation technology giant, donated 11.45 million yuan to earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan.

"I'm glad to know that students here can enjoy their school life in such a good environment. It's a result of joint efforts from ABB, local government and China Red Cross Society," Bernd Muehe, the senior vice president of ABB, said at the opening ceremony. "The reconstruction work is a long and arduous work. We will continue contributing to the reconstruction work in the future.

The two ABB schools have building areas of 3,324 sq m and 3,057 sq m, and they can withstand an earthquake measuring up to 8.0 on the Richter Scale.

"Education is the key to a nation's development," Muehe said. "The educational reconstruction is the top priority of all the reconstruction work of the hit area."
