China gives environmental nod to PetroChina-PDVSA refinery

BEIJING - China has given initial environmental clearence to an $8.7 billion joint-venture refinery between PetroChina Co Ltd and Venezuela's state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA).

The refinery, to be located in Jieyang in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, would have a crude refining capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, according to the website of the country's environmental watchdog (www.mep.gov.cn).
