VP urges guarantee of major agricultural products supply

FUZHOU - Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu has called for greater efforts to ensure sufficient supplies of major agricultural products to satisfy increasing demand and help raise farmers' incomes.

Hui made the remarks in an inspection tour to the southern provinces of Guangdong and Fujian from Monday to Friday.

He told local officials to fully recognize the "special importance" of the three issues of rural areas, farmers and agriculture to maintain the stability of economy and prices.

"Efforts should be put into accelerating the modernization of agriculture, the transformation of the agriculture development mode and the fine-tuning of agricultural structure," he said.

In his visit to a urban community in Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Hui said that harmonious communities were essential to building a harmonious society.
