Western China International Fair opens in Chengdu

CHENGDU - The 11th Western China International Fair opened Friday in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, attracting a record 60,000 business people from around the world.

Some 3,153 businesses from 44 countries and regions are attending the five-day fair, including multinationals such as Intel, Honda, LG and Diageo, the organizers said.

The fair has 8,890 exhibition booths, covering 160,000 square meters. The 2010 Global Trade Forum, the Fourth China-Latin America Enterprises Summit, the First Sino-Indian Business Forum and the Fifth China-EU Investment and Trade Fair will be held on the sidelines. The annual fair has been held in Chengdu for 10 straight years.

"The fair has become an important platform for Western China regions and pan-Asian nations and regions to boost exchanges and cooperation," said Mu Xinhai, director of the Sichuan Expo Affairs Bureau.

Chinese Vice-premier Wang Qishan and senior officials from other countries, the United Nations and other international organizations attended the opening of the fair on Friday.
