HANGZHOU - Total turnover of China's e-commerce jumped 10 percent in the second quarter from a year ago to 1.1 trillion yuan ($161 billion), according to a research result released Sunday.

Sales of B2C (Business-to-Consumer) business, or online retail sales, nearly doubled from April to June to 111.23 billion yuan, according to a report released by iResearch, a market research firm, at an industry event held in Hangzhou in east China.

The number of online shoppers hit 109 million at the end of last year, or 28.4 percent of China's total Internet population, the report said.

Total turnover of China's e-commerce reached 3.8 trillion yuan last year, up 22 percent year on year, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce.
