China's stocks close higher - Aug 24

BEIJING - Chinese stocks close higher on Tuesday after declining for two consecutive trading days, buoyed by the strong performance of property developers and steelmakers.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,650.31, up 10.94 points, or 0.41 percent. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 135.38 points, or 1.22 percent, to end at 11,214.24.

Combined turnover expanded to 207.7 billion yuan ($30.41 billion) from 186.21 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 703 to 161 in Shanghai and 831 to 187 in Shenzhen.
