China's stocks edge up - Friday

BEIJING: Chinese shares edged up Friday, buoyed by continuous gains in software and heathcare shares as well as a rebound in property shares.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,553.59 points, up 0.94 points, or 0.04 percent from the previous close. The index ended the week with a drop of 3.85 percent.

The Shenzhen Component Index ended at 10,187.20 points, up 69.16 points, or 0.68 percent, from the previous close.

Total turnover shrank to 120.55 billion yuan ($17.65 billion) from 152.05 billion yuan on the previous trading day, a record low since March 16.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 584 to 259 in Shanghai and 715 to 220 in Shenzhen.

Stocks of software and healthcare continued Thursday's upward trend due to the government's decision to boost the two sectors.

China National Software and Service Co rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to 21.37 yuan. Inspur Co also rallied by the daily limit to 13.13 yuan.

Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients Corp rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to 23.06 yuan. The company's stocks have posted a more than 40 percent growth this week. Anhui Anke Biotechnology Co gained 9.13 percent to 24.38 yuan.
