China stocks down Monday, adding to monthly losses

BEIJING: Chinese shares declined Monday, led by weak property with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shedding 9.7 percent for the month of May.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed down 63.62 points, or 2.4 percent, at 2,592.15 points Monday.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 2.78 percent, or 291.48 points, to 10,204.17 points.

Total turnover fell to 163.8 billion yuan ($24 billion), down from 187.41 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 798 to 72 in Shanghai and 833 to 102 in Shenzhen.
