Jiangsu aims high at Internet of things

East China's Jiangsu province plans to make itself a leader in the technology and use of the Internet-of-things industry in three to six years, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Thursday.

The Internet of things is a network of real-world objects linked by the Internet and interacting through web services. Technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID) and sensors are the basis of the network. The second generation of Chinese ID cards and access cards for company staff are the most common application of this concept.

Jiangsu will try to win the central government's support by making it a national strategic program, according to the province's development plan on the industry.

The province aims to reap more than 150 billion yuan ($21.97 billion) from the industry's sales by 2012, and 400 billion yuan by 2015, according to the Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission.
