460 new complaints about flawed HP laptops filed

A group of lawyers handed over materials of more than 460 Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop users to the country's top quality watchdog Tuesday afternoon, bringing the total number of complaints filed against HP laptops up to 520, the Beijing Times reported.

The materials included personal information, invoices, maintenance records and letters of authorization.

A staff member with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said a special investigation team would probe the matter, but didn't say when a conclusion would be reached.

HP laptop users complained about problems like black screens and overheating as early as 2008, and such complaints peaked last September.

On March 15 - Consumer Rights Day - HP China apologized to its customers over its flawed laptops and promised to resolve service problems within 30 days.
