Big brands such as Versace, HUGO BOSS, D&G are on a list announced by Zhejiang Administration for Industry and Commerce before World Consumers Rights Day for disappointing quality.

Almost 60 percent of clothes are disqualified during a spot check of imported clothing in Zhejiang province, Xinhua.net reported.

The test results show that some luxury brands which enjoy a high reputation have serious quality problems. The disqualified safety figures such as color fastness, PH level and formaldehyde content will disturb acid-base balance of the skin and irritate mucous membrane--a huge risk to human health.

According to quality control personnel, some imported clothes have fake labels of component contents, and the instructions for care are misleading, Xinhuanet reported.

Luxury brands being imported at one time enjoyed a privilege when it came to inspection. As the domestic economy booms and the local fashion industry has flourished in recent years, the Industry and Commerce department strengthened supervision on imported goods. Tested results also show that high fashion does not necessarily mean high quality.

Zheng Yumin, head of the Zhejiang Administration of Industry and Commerce, said safeguarding consumers’ rights is a means to ensure the national competition strategy, and he added that domestic consumers deserve equal rights in the global marketplace.

According to the news report, disqualified clothing tested was imported mostly from Italy, Morocco, France, Turkey, Romania, Egypt, Mauritius, Vietnam, India and Bangladesh. The disqualified brands also included Hermes.

The disqualified products list can be found on the website of the Zhejiang Administration for Industry and Commerce.
