The conference, scheduled at 18:00 Monday Beijing Time, is to "reassure Chinese consumers about Toyota's quality and safety," its spokesman revealed. It is expected Toyoda will apologize for the recall crisis and promise this kind of issue will not happen again.

Although Toyota only recalled a small number of vehicles in China compared with in the US and Europe, the nation is a great potential market for the Japanese automaker. In 2009 China superseded US as the biggest auto market.

During Toyoda's China tour he will also meet with government officials and Toyota's Chinese employees, according to company executives.

China's quality control regulator has already issued notices warning consumers about Toyota vehicles' quality concern and urged them to report to the company and government if any problem is found.
