China's per capita gross domestic product (GDP) or gross national income (GNI) is expected to reach $3,400 by the end of 2010, reaching the level of medium-income countries, the website caijing.com.cn reported today, citing Wednesday's remarks of an unnamed official from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

China's economy will soon become the world's second largest, but its per capita GNI is still at the level of medium and low-income countries, Caijing reported. However, as the country's economy has been developing at a very fast pace, its per capita GNI is improving quickly as well.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) China's average annual GDP growth rate will reach 10.1 percent, 2.6 percentage points higher than the 7.5 percent level as planned, Caijing reported.
