Updated: 2007-07-11 14:04 The Line 5 of Beijing Subway, scheduled to open on September 20, began trial operation without passengers yesterday and everything went smoothly. The Line 5, measuring 28 kilometers long and featuring 23 stations, runs from Tiantongyuan in the north to Songjiazhuang in the south. Eleven trains were tested along the line yesterday, on a 10-minute interval, according to Beijing Subway Company. After September 20, trains on the Line 5 will run with an average speed of 36 kilometers per hour and at a minimum interval of four minutes. The maximum speed will reach 80 kilometers per hour. Total journey time from one end to the other will be around 49 minutes, seven minutes less than the Line 1. Cell phone signals can be received when trains run in tunnels on the Line 5. Shield doors will be installed between passengers and tracks to ensure safety. |
