Vegetables in Guangdong will soon have their own identity. The southern province is to give every carrot, cabbage and pea pod its own identity number.

According to the new measure launched by Agriculture Department of Guangdong Province, every vegetable should be put on an identity code with detailed information about its name, manufacturer and date of packing. If there is a 'safety incident', the vegetable's file can be immediately checked and its origins traced.
