Glaston expands China footprint

Glaston Corporation, a leading maker of glass processing machines, expanded its footprint in China with the inauguration of a production facility inTianjinon Friday.

The Finnish multi-brands operator invested $4.2 million for the new plant, which covers 13,000 square meters in Tianjin Wuqing development area. Construction of the plant was finished last autumn and will now operate at full capacity.

"Customers in China and the North Asia market are right on the top of our agenda," said Mika Seitovirta, president andCEOof Glaston Group.

"Chinese industries are doing well and growing, and according to forecasts the trend will continue. All our investments made in China are to better serve our customers," he added.

Petri Makinen, general manager of Tamglass-Bavelloni (Tianjin) Co Ltd said the new facility will provide the production of Bavelloni and Tamglass pre-processing and safety glass machines and lines, as well as Bavelloni Tools' operations for the growing Chinese market.

The product range covers three Tamglass GHF furnace series for horizontal glass tempering as well as Bavelloni cutting tables and drilling machines.

"In addition to machine manufacturing, customers now have available at the same site spare part services and options for all Glaston machines," said Makinen.

He said that the production capacity of the plant "can satisfy the total demand of China's glass processing industry. We will think about future investment when the demand roars."

Glaston has won orders from major domestic manufacturers such as China Southern Glass Holding Corp.
