Media: New media reaps US$15b revenue

China's new media, including mobile and Internet media, generated 114 billion yuan (US$15 billion) in revenue in 2006.

The figure, representing one third of the nation's media industry revenue, rose 56 percent from the previous year, said Wang Liming, deputy director of the China Media Research Center. Mobile media, including cell phones, short messaging services and cell phone broadcasting, generated 88.8 billion yuan last year, up 41.3 percent. Meanwhile, Internet media reaped 25.2 billion yuan, with online games rising 62 percent and advertising 48.2 percent.
