BYD Co, Chinese mainland's largest rechargeable battery maker by revenue, will spend up to 2.5 billion HK dollars this year to expand its production capacity, said president Wang Chuanfu.

The company will allocate 1 billion HK dollars to its car-making unit, BYD Auto, which accounted for 25 percent of revenue last year.

The company plans to sell 150,000 cars this year, with three new models to be launched in the second half.
