An energy ministerial meeting of China, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea and India is in active preparation, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in Beijing on Thursday.

Qin said at a regular press conference that the meeting, hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission, is scheduled to open on December 16.

Qin said the meeting aims at strengthening the dialogues and cooperation between the world major energy consumers.

The energy chiefs of the five nations will discuss issues including the reduction of energy consumption, raising energy efficiency, alternate energy, and how to maintain the stability of international energy market and international energy security.

Qin said China hopes the meeting would help relevant countries exchange their energy policies and opinions about the current international energy situation.
