The world's biggest commercial airliner, the Airbus A380, landed in the rain at Shanghai Pudong Airport yesterday evening.

It was the last foreign airport stop on the superjumbo's 10-day trial flight.

The plane will leave Shanghai for its base in Toulouse, France, this afternoon.

The technical-trial requires the aircraft to complete more than 150 flight hours on a typical airline schedule, performing in its normal operating environment.

Starting in France, the route involved landings at 10 airports, including Seoul, Korea; Narita, Japan; and Guangzhou and Beijing in China.

The A380 has to demonstrate that it can be turned around and sent back on its journey under normal conditions. Tests include checks on standard maintenance and performance, as well as airport operations and compatibility, such as bridge docking, cleaning, catering, refueling and boarding procedures.

The final authentication is expected to be finished in mid-December after the plane's last trial fight over South Africa, Canada, Australia, the South Pole and North Pole.
