It sold 847,000 units in 2004, among which 617,000 are passenger cars. It realized revenue of 165.3 billion yuan and export value of US$700 million.

At the end of 2004, SAIC restructured itself and established the SAIC Motor Corporation Ltd. After the transformation, SAIC would define its role as a comprehensive investment
corporation in advanced manufacturing industry and modern service.
