Beijing plans new emission standard for vehicles

Beijing market must meet the China IV emission standard, according to a report
submitted to the Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal People's Congress by Ji
Lin, vice mayor of the capital city.
The Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau also confirmed the implementation
of the China IV emission standard ahead of schedule.
According to the commitments to the International Olympic Committee, China
will enforce the China IV standard in 2008, but increasing automobiles and a bad
peripheral environment are two major problems for Beijing in tackling pollution.
